Unwanted and uncontrolled water is always upsetting. If you encounter water damage on your commercial or residential property, here are a few steps you can take to help mitigate damages.

• Shut off the water source if possible
• Remove excess water by mopping and blotting
• Lift and prop up wet upholstery cushions
• Put wooden block or aluminum foil under furniture legs to prevent water absorption
• Remove rugs from wet carpet
• Hang furs and leather goods at room temperature with space between each item
• Never use a regular vacuum to remove water
• Do not turn on ceiling fixtures is the ceiling is wet
• Stay out of areas where the ceiling is sagging with retained water
• Do not leave books, magazines or any colored items on wet carpets
