Summer storm damage can be catastrophic

Michigan is notorious for sudden, violent spring and summer storms. You can be one step ahead of Mother Nature with a well-stocked Emergency Supply Kit. Your kit should be assembled and easily accessible in the event of an emergency or evacuation.

The America Red Cross recommends stocking a 3-day supply of essentials. Keep in mind it may take that long for help to arrive.

Recommended Items to Include in an Emergency Supply Kit:

Water, one gallon of water per person per day for drinking and sanitation

Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food and can opener

Battery-powered or hand crank NOAA Weather Radio with extra batteries

Flashlight and extra batteries

First aid kit

Prescriptions, contact lens, glasses and hearing aids w extra batteries

Copies of personal doucments including medication lists, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates and insurance policies)

Whistle to signal for help

Dust masks to filter dirty air

Plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter in place

Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation

Tool kit and work gloves

Local maps

Phone chargers with car adapters

Extra car and house keys
